Sensitising Women On Their Own
Women power is crucial to the economic growth of any country. Our constitution has granted equal
rights to women but in fact they are subjected to differential treatments. A female baby is still unwanted. A girl
does not enjoy as much care and attention of her parents as a boy enjoyed. India cannot prosper as a nation unless
and until efforts are being made to empower women so that there is equal participation of women in economic
growth of the country.
Women’s human rights include the rights to equality, to dignity, autonomy, information and bodily integrity and respect for private life and the highest attainable standard of health, including sexual and reproductive health, without discrimination; as well as the right to freedom from torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.
Reproductive rights rest on the recognition of the basic right of all couples and individuals to decide freely and responsibly the number, spacing and timing of their children and to have the information and means to do so, and the right to attain the highest standard of sexual and reproductive health. They also include the right of all to make decisions concerning reproduction free of discrimination, coercion and violence.
Women's reproductive rights may include some or all of the following: the right to legal and safe abortion; the right to birth control; freedom from coerced sterilisation and contraception; the right to access good-quality reproductive healthcare and the right to education and access in order to make free and informed reproductive choices.
